To improve outcomes of prematurity, we must keep mothers healthy

Maternal mortality has steadily increased in the US over the last 2 decades, which has increased the focus on events that may threaten a mother's health and even her survival during pregnancy and childbirth. Although it is intuitive that a mother's health is linked to the outcome of her pregnancy, there are few studies that have explored the relationship between acute maternal illness at birth with long-term outcomes of prematurity.
