Parathyroid adenolipoma. A case report and review of the literature.

Parathyroid adenolipoma. A case report and review of the literature. Ann Ital Chir. 2019 Sep 02;8: Authors: Dibra A, Bushati T, Berdica L, Masati B, Maranaku S Abstract The primary hyperparathyroidism is a pathological condition that needs frequent surgical treatment. Usually it is encountered due to a parathyroid adenoma, but in rare cases it is configured as structured parathyroid tissue in a rich environment with a bulk of adipose cells. This pathology initially described as Hamartoma of the parathyroid gland and then as parathyroid adenolipoma is rarely encountered and it requires special care from medical staff because of the difficulty in its early diagnosis and also its treatment. We are presenting a case treated by our team and a review of the literature on this topic. KEY WORDS: Hyperparathyroidism, Parathyroid surgery, Parathyroid adenolipoma, Parathyroid hamartoma. ABSTRACTIdentify potential risk factors associated with severe hypocalcemia (SH) after microwave ablation (MWA) in patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT). This retrospective cross ‐sectional study enrolled 204 consecutive patients (with 387 parathyroid glands) who underwent MWA between July 2015 and May 2018. Clinical parameters, laboratory indices and parathyroid gland characteristics were analyzed to assess risk factors associated with SH after MWA. SH was defined as seru m calcium level lower than 1.875 mmol/L (7.5 mg/dL) after MWA. Two models (I and II) for pre‐MWA and post‐MWA predictio...

AbstractPurpose of reviewThis manuscript reviews the data on the mechanisms and significance of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in masters athletes. It describes recent advances in understanding the biological pathway for the development and progression of ASCVD in athletes. It also reviews salient clinical trials, guidelines on managing ASCVD in masters athletes, and future research directions.Recent findingsRecent data have produced controversy as to whether high levels of physical activity and endurance training can promote ASCVD. Longstanding, vigorous endurance exercise may increase the development of c...

Abstract Skeletal toxicity has been reported following exposure to polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) mixtures. However, molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. We exposed groups of male 4-5-week-old Sprague-Dawley rats to 3,3', 4, 4', 5-pentachlorobiphenyl (PCB 126), a dioxin-like coplanar PCB congener by a single i.p. injection of 5 µmol/kg in soy oil vehicle or vehicle alone. After 4 weeks, rats were euthanized. PCB exposure resulted in hypocalcemia (P

CONCLUSIONS: AMBP can help detect hypertension in patients with PHPT that remains unrecognized with routine office-based blood pressure measurement. In addition, AMBP detects loss of normal dipping pattern in BP that persists in almost half of the patients even after successful parathyroidectomy, perhaps because of permanent vascular damage induced by PHPT. ConclusionLocal anaesthesia with hypnoanalgesia, compared with sedation during minimally invasive parathyroid surgery, improved early postoperative outcomes, making outpatient management more efficient.

Conclusion: CKD-MBD is common among patients on hemodialysis in our center. Screening for CKD-MBD and appropriate use of phosphate binder and Vitamin D when indicated are highly recommended.

AbstractThere are many causes of hypercalcaemia including hyperparathyroidism, drugs, granulomatous disorders and malignancy. Parathyroid hormone (PTH) related hypercalcaemia is most commonly caused by primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and more rarely by familial hypocalciuric hypercalcaemia (FHH). Algorithms for diagnosis of PTH related hypercalcaemia require assessment of a 24-h urinary calcium and creatinine excretion to calculate calcium/creatinine clearance ratio and radiological investigations including ultrasound scan and99mTc-sestamibi-SPECT/CT. To illustrate investigations and management of parathyroid-related hy...

Naples et  al1 reviewed the Cleveland Clinic experience primary hyperparathyroidism (PHP) regarding the time course from diagnosis of hypercalcemia to the surgical treatment of PHP. They reviewed the records of 219 patients with sporadic PHP and found that symptomatic and asymptomatic patients experience del ays in referral to surgical consultation. The average duration of time from an elevated calcium to surgery for those patients with clear indications by the current guidelines is 3.9 years. Such delay occurs with costly office visits and medical testing, and the cost of unnecessary consultations, dia gnostic testin...
