Assessment of point-of-care ultrasound training for obstetric anesthesiology Fellows in the US and Canada: a survey of program directors

Maternal morbidity and mortality in the United States has been rising for the last 20 years, so obstetric anesthesiologists frequently provide peripartum critical care for a wide range of indications.1,2 Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is a focused, usually qualitative, ultrasound (US) examination performed and interpreted at the bedside in order to guide patient management in real time. It has emerged as an important tool in the diagnosis and treatment of critical illness; acquisition of this skill set has been incorporated into standards for emergency medicine and critical care training programs but has yet to be included in the standards for obstetric anesthesiology fellowship training programs.
