Psychological resilience during the perimenopause
The perimenopause describes the phase of transition from regular menstruation to its cessation. It is characterized by physical and emotional changes and is determined by biological, psychological and socio-cultural aspects within the aging process [1,2]. During this transition, women often report psychological, somatic, vasomotor, and urogenital symptoms [3,4]. Up to 70% of all women experience symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats or sleep disturbances [5]. Besides physical symptoms, the menopausal transition is a critical phase for psychological disorders such as depression and anxiety [6 –11].
