Root coverage using a dual layer type I non ‐cross‐link collagen haemostatic biomaterial – a 10 year follow‐up

AbstractAesthetics and predictability, such as long ‐term function, shape, texture, colour and contour of the tissues are important factors in root coverage procedures. Surgical procedures could be recommended to treat gingival recession; for example, the use of collagen membrane stands out among them. This case report shows the clinical efficiency of a dual layer collagen membrane associated with coronal flap displacement to treat a MILLER class II gingival recession on the mandibular right first premolar. The patient had lack of keratinised tissue, accumulation of bacterial biofilm and exposed dental root, creating aesthetic disharmony. The periodontal parameters of probing depth, clinical attachment loss level, recession and width of the keratinised gingiva on the mid‐buccal site were measured at baseline, 120 days, 5 and 10 years post‐surgery. Complete coverage with high, long term stability was obtained. The present study sho ws that a dual layer membrane could be considered as an option to treat gingival recessions.
