ConclusionThoracoscopic surgery under local anesthesia can be the worthwhile definitive modality, among few remaining treatments, for highly fragile patients with SSP. Detecting air leakage directly and the presence of thin and transparent bullae without any other suspicious lesions can be clues for identifying culprit lesions.

AbstractThe aim of our study is a retrospective evaluation of effectiveness and safety of Computed Tomography (CT)-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) therapy of primary and metastatic lung lesions in patients that cannot be considered surgical candidates. From February 2007 to September 2017, we performed 264 CT-guided ablation sessions on 264 lesions in 174 patients (112  M and 62 F; mean age, 68 years; range 36–83 years) affected by primary and metastatic lung lesions. The 45% of patients was affected by primary lung cancer, with size range lesion of 10–50 mm, and the 55% by metastatic l...

We report a case where serial follow-up chest computed tomography revealed progression of pulmonary lesions into confluent bilateral consolidation with lower lung predominance, thereby confirming COVID-19 pneumonia. Furthermore, complications such as mediastinal emphysema, giant bulla, and pneumothorax were also observed during the course of the disease. PMID: 32207255 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Abstract Nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) disease is of increasing public health concern, data regarding pleural effusion in NTM disease patients are limited. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical relevance and characteristics of NTM pleuritis. Patients with pleural effusion and NTM disease diagnosed between April 2012 and November 2017 were enrolled, their medical records were retrospectively reviewed. Clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes were analyzed. Among 100 cases with NTM disease, NTM pleuritis occurred in 7 cases (7%). Flow cytometry of T and B lymphocytes revealed an varyin...

Authors: Futatsuya C, Minato H, Okayama Y, Katayanagi K, Kurumaya H, Yuasa M, Nishi K Abstract Idiopathic pleuroparenchymal fibroelastosis (IPPFE) is a generally slow-progressing rare disorder of unknown etiology. The direct cause of death in cases of IPPFE is rarely investigated. We experienced an autopsy case of a Japanese man with IPPFE and found aspiration pneumonia to be the major trigger of death. The individual had left vocal cord paralysis at admission, which may have contributed to aspiration pneumonia, and which probably was affected by the fibrous adhesion of the left apex of the chest wall resulting fro...

Conclusion The analysis of the current literature provides low evidence, since there are only case reports and small case series. It is likely that the frequency of this condition is underestimated. However, this analysis permits to draw some conclusions concerning the timing of pneumothorax treatment, the operative strategy, and the mode of delivery to decrease the risk for the mother and the fetus.
