We investigated the analgesic efficacy of bilateral superficial cervical plexus block in the intraoperative and postoperative periods. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients (n = 46) undergoing thyroidectomy were randomly separated into the following 2 groups: the General Anesthesia Group (GA; n = 23) and the general anesthesia plus BSCPB Group (GS; n = 23). The in...

CONCLUSIONS: After elective midline laparotomy for colorectal resection, continuous wound infusion of a local anaesthetic compared to a normal saline placebo reduces postoperative pain at rest and the length of hospital stay, on the basis of high-certainty evidence. This means we are very confident that the effect estimates for these outcomes lie close to the true effects. There is moderate-certainty evidence to indicate that the intervention probably reduces opioid consumption via PCA and the time to first bowel movement. This means we are moderately confident that effect estimates for these outcomes are likely to be clos...

We describe a case of posttraumatic chronic intercostal neuralgia, in which successful pain relief was achieved via repeated injections of local anesthetic and steroid combinations in the serratus anterior plane under ultrasonographic guidance. This novel technique is easy to administer, reliable, and warrants further investigation with regard to its use for rehabilitation of patients who are experiencing posttraumatic chronic neuropathies of the chest wall.

AbstractWe evaluated the performance of the Surgical Plethysmographic Index (SPI) and the Analgesia Nociception Index (ANI) as surrogate pain measures and determined their respective cut-off values for detecting pain in conscious postoperative patients. In total, 192 patients after elective surgery were enrolled. Baseline SPI and ANI data were acquired for 10  min in the operating room prior to surgery when the patients rated their pain as 0 on the numerical rating scale (NRS). Upon arrival in the post-anaesthesia care unit (PACU) after surgery, SPI and ANI data were recorded for 10 min. The means of the recorded...
