24.4 novel therapeutic options in asd

As the evidence base for pharmacologic intervention for ASD evolves, providers and caretakers are looking to novel therapeutic interventions. Although we do not fully understand the long-term implications of these interventions, they present a source of hope, particularly for youth with ASD who have not responded to other treatments. In this review, current emerging options of cannabidiol (CBD) oil, oxytocin, and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for the treatment of ASD in children and adolescents are reviewed, with a focus on potential benefits and risks.
