58.2 strategies for school avoidance in elementary school students

Early recognition of school avoidance behaviors and prompt intervention is vitally important to keeping students on track. This presentation will give practical strategies for successfully addressing school avoidance in the elementary school-aged student. Helping students who are reluctant to come to school when they are in elementary school is critical, because the longer a pattern of school avoidance continues, the more difficult it is to address. This can result in a difficult and persistent problem, sometimes resulting in a battle with the school about the requirement for a therapeutic or residential placement.
