Development of an intelligent guidewire made from an electroactive terpolymer, p (VDF-TrFE-CFE)
Complex endovascular procedures require many guidewires and catheters and the multiple exchanges during the procedures are responsible for a long operative duration, high costs and potential complications such as ruptures or dissections. Electroactive polymers are intelligent materials i.e. capable of a mechanical action such as displacement, deformation or rigidification under the influence of an electric tension. Recent studies showed the potential value of such organic polymers for medical applications.
