Evaluation of some biological applications of Pleurotus citrinopileatus and Boletus edulis fruiting bodies. Curr Pharm Biotechnol. 2019 Sep 04;: Authors: Younis AM, Abdel-Aziz MM, Yosri M Abstract Mushrooms were deemed as a special delicacy by many countries. They identified as an essential cuisine due its bioactive ingredients and offer huge pivotal actions on personal fitness. Herein, we evaluated some biological aspects of the methanolic extracts of Pleurotus citrinopileatus and Boletus edulis fruiting bodies including; In vitro antimicrobial, potential anti-diabetic, antioxidant, potential anti-lipidemic and cytotoxic activity against different carcinoma and normal cell lines. B. edulis methanolic extract revealed superior antimicrobial and potential anti-diabetic activity. On the other hand, P. citrinopileatus methanolic extracts showed superior antioxidant indicated by DPPH radical scavenging with half maximal inhibitory concentration IC50 37.4 µg/ml, potential anti-obesity activities with IC50 65.2 µg/ml and high cytotoxic activity against HepG2 and HeLa carcinoma cell lines with IC50 22.8 and 36.7 µg/ml reciprocally. Mutually, P. citrinopileatus and B. edulis methanolic extracts showed inhibitory activity against all biological aspects under investigation, with negligible cytotoxicity against regular mouse hepatocytes and Vero cells.
