Medical schools do not care about athletics, you can be a NCAA champion for three seasons straight, all the interviewers see is a possible arrogant jock. Medical schools do not care what your undergraduate degree was either, I have met doctors and medical students with degrees in culinary arts, criminal justice, political science, etc.. The list goes on with things that aren't even related to medicine, which is the point of medical school - to teach you medicine. To get into medical school all you have to do is meet the prerequisites, get a good score on the MCAT, and do well on the interview day. 50% of the interview is to see if you have the proper educational prerequisites and see that you are really willing to go through medical school and the other 50% is to see if they can stand you for the next four years or not. As far as the MCAT goes you can take a few months, not really a year for MCAT studying. Best way to study for the MCAT is to find a MCAT prep class near you or take one online - both cost a little money. When you are enrolled in one of the two locations of the program buy your own MCAT study guide and study it when you are not in the MCAT prep class.
