extubation in OR took an hour???

This might be a confusing question. A year ago I was very sick and spent three weeks in the hospital (ICU mostly). I was on a ventilator for almost two weeks. When they finally decided to extubate, they took me to the OR, and it was the strangest, most distressing experience of my life. My head was pounding and felt like it was going to explode, my heart was racing very fast, I was cold and sweating at the same time, felt like I couldn't breathe, but I clearly was since I didn't pass out. At the time I thought that's how it was supposed to be. But after getting out of the hospital I did a lot of research on my illness and everything I experienced there as a way to cope. When I looked up extubation, it seems to be a pretty straight forward an non-complicated process. I even watched a video, and this guy was extubated in his room by a nurse, not the OR by 6 doctors. And it only took 2 minutes, not 45. I never saw the doctors that performed the extubation again, so I couldn't ask. But I was told by other doctors that it's possible they took me to the OR in case something went wrong and they had to reintubate, they would need to do a tracheotomy. What's your take on this? How could extubation end up being so complicated? If you need more information about my case I'll be glad to share. Sorry if this was really long and confusing/vague.
