Outcomes Associated With Overlapping Surgery

To the Editor In their study of overlapping surgery, Dr Sun and colleagues concluded that “among adults undergoing common operations, overlapping surgery was not significantly associated with differences in in-hospital mortality or postoperative complication rates but was significantly associated with increased surgery length.” However, their reported intraoperative times are consist ently longer than empirical data, and the conclusions they draw do not seem warranted by their data.
