A primer on cost-effectiveness in the allergy clinic

Evidence-based medicine in the era of personalized health care delivery is woven into every patient encounter, and technological advances continue to sculpt how care delivery will look in the near future.1 For the practicing allergist, balancing risks, benefits, and costs of rapidly developing advances in technology is a continuing challenge.2 –4 Resources in medicine are finite, and therefore the price of care matters.5,6 In fact, more than 30% of health care spending has been estimated to be wasteful (directed toward low-value care).
