For the spherical hierarchical NMC secondary particles prepared by co-precipitation, each grain is covered by a uniform LSMO thin film. The LSMO material with superior conductivity functions as a protective layer from interface side reactions also to avoid the additional impedance contributed by the coating shell. The NMC@LSMO composite exhibits superior rate capability and excellent cycling stability especially at high temperature. The specific capacity is 190.3 and 128.6 mAh g−1 at 0.1 and 10 C, respectively. After 100 cycle times at a current density of 1 C under 55 °C, the NMC@LSMO can delivers a capacity of 166.5 mAh g−1 with a retention ratio of 89.7%. The evenly coating by a simple technology, superior capability and cycling stability at elevated temperature demonstrate potential for up-scaling to industrial quantities.
