CONCLUSION: This is the first study of the impact of RBC transfusions on MMR vaccine immunogenicity. Although lower than in the literature (immunity rates, ≥90%), the results show a high rate of immunogenicity of the MMR vaccine in chronically transfused patients. Additionally, results suggest that MMR antibody content in transfusions will continue to decrease with time. Weighing the risks and benefits of disease prevention in a vulnerable population, a reevaluation of immunization delays after RBC transfusions is called for. Discussion Transplantation is not a common problem for primary care physicians but when a child’s disease has progressed to end-stage organ failure, transplantation can be the only treatment available. While the primary care provider usually is not involved in the daily management of patients before, during and after transplantation, they can be involved in many areas. These can include providing appropriate primary and acute care, ordering and obtaining necessary medical tests, medications and equipment, assisting with medical insurance, providing medical history and records to consultants, translating medical infor...

Recently, one of the students whom I was precepting at my primary care site stated “we didn't learn much about the measles.” To which I replied, “no, we haven't talked much about the measles.” Certainly, the students had memorized the standard immunization schedule and were aware of the thoroughly debunked theory linking the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine to autism, b ut they needed a refresher on the presenting signs and symptoms of the extremely contagious viral infection and how to educate their patients and families.

Conclusions: One-third of the investigated population had expressed VH, and a further one-third of these had refused a vaccine for their child. Chicken Pox, Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), and HPV vaccines generated the most hesitation. Negative information from the media was the most frequently evoked reason for VH. (Natural News) There’s a pretty big chink forming in the armor surrounding the pro-vaccine narrative, as health officials in New Hampshire recently admitted that Merck &Co.’s combination MMR vaccine for measles, mumps, and rubella was the true cause of a measles outbreak in the area that rabid pro-vaxxers were quick to blame on the...

(CNN) — There have been 971 cases of measles reported in the United States this year, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday. This means 2019, which is not quite half over, now has the greatest number of cases in a single year in nearly three decades. The number of cases in 1994 was 963, which was lower than in 1992 when there were 2,237 cases. “Measles is preventable and the way to end this outbreak is to ensure that all children and adults who can get vaccinated, do get vaccinated. Again, I want to reassure parents that vaccines are safe, they do not cause autism. The greater danger i...
