Rationale: Anorexia nervosa is a chronic psychiatric disease defined by severe weight loss, due to fear of obesity, and self-imposed semi-starvation. Of the many complications following anorexia nervosa, low bone mineral density (BMD) is a significant risk factor for fractures. Anorexia nervosa is associated with higher risk of incident fracture in females across all age groups, and in males>40 years old. Sites at highest risk of fracture include the hip/femur and pelvis in females, and vertebrae in males with anorexia nervosa. Patient concerns: A 29-year-old woman known to have suffered from anorexia nervosa 15...

We present a patient that was admitted to our department with amenorrhea, positive ßhCG and acute abdomen. Emergency laparoscopy was performed but no ectopic pregnancy was found, just blood, coagula and a ruptured corpus luteum. The day after the surgery, intrauterine pregnancy was found on ultrasound and the pregnancy ended with term delivery. PMID: 31168219 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Abstract Obstructive uterovaginal anomalies may present after puberty with amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, pelvic pain, recurrent vaginal discharge, or infertility. The evaluation of a patient with a suspected obstructive reproductive anomaly should include a detailed medical history, physical examination, and imaging. The genital examination is critical to differentiate a patient with an imperforate hymen from a patient with labial adhesions, urogenital sinus, transverse vaginal septum, or distal vaginal atresia. Pelvic ultrasonography is the initial imaging method recommended for a patient with cyclic pain a...

Conclusion Preclinical and clinical studies have demonstrated that treatment with antipsychotics and metformin had effects on the gut microbiota and the brain. Although the mechanism of the effects of metformin on AIMD remains unclear, there are some clues in the regulation of the gut-brain axis (Figure 1). The most important connections between metformin and AIMD in the gut microbiota were the mucin-degrading bacteria A. muciniphila and several SCFA-producing bacteria, such as the phyla Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes. The gut microbiota were was influenced during AIMD, and these changes included a decrease in A. muciniphil...

Introduction: An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilised egg implants outside the uterine cavity, mostly in one of the Fallopian tubes. In the developed countries, between 1% and 2% of all reported pregnancies are extrauterine gravidities. The classic clinical triad of ectopic pregnancy is pain, amenorrhea, and vaginal bleeding; however, only about 50% of patients present with all 3 symptoms. Ectopic pregnancy is common in women of reproductive age, therefore its treatment requires special attention and ideal management strategies.

ConclusionsThe clinical diagnosis of PHP can be settled up by comprehensive analysis of serum HCG levels, ultrasound and imaging. The analysis should be assessed carefully before therapeutic procedure. Invasive methods should be preferential. Less-invasive approaches can be selected when the patients have stable hemodynamics and non-acute abdomen.
