Our study will investigate the role of remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC) as a potential neuroprotective mechanism. RIPC is a well-tolerated stimulus that, through neuronal and humoral pathways, generates a systemic environment of greater resistance to subsequent ischemic insults.

CONCLUSIONS: National and international comparison of different CEA series is irrelevant if the inclusion criteria are not considered. A calculator that is easy to apply to large scale high quality registered data was developed and tested. SPP was found to increase over time, which is a probable sign of improved patient selection and an increased number of strokes prevented by the CEAs performed. Free-floating thrombus (FFT) of the carotid artery is an uncommon condition that can present with neurologic symptoms, often in the setting of ischemic stroke. The literature pertaining to the incidence and optimal treatment of this condition is limited. Herein we report our contemporary experience with FFT across a range of degrees of carotid stenosis.
CONCLUSIONS: Carotid endarterectomy was associated with a lower incidence of mortality compared to carotid artery stenting for patients with contralateral carotid occlusion. Regarding stroke, myocardial infarction, and transient ischemic attack, there was no significant difference between the two groups. Conclusions: Embolism associated with asymptomatic carotid stenosis shows circadian variation with highest rates 4–6 h before midday. CONCLUSIONS: In this small case series, hybrid revascularisation of carotid tandem lesions in symptomatic patients seems feasible and safe. Long-term data show a relatively high number of any adverse events. These surgical outcomes need to be offset against the natural course in patients with a symptomatic carotid tandem lesion. Conclusions: Increased HbA1c values seem to contribute to plaque instability through the formation of a thin fibrous cup. Thus, of the carotid artery plaque parameters including fibrous cup thickness, plaque rupture, lipid core, inflammation, intraplaque hemorrhage, thrombus, calcification, necrotic core, and neovascularization, fibrous cup thickness is the only histomorphological feature that affected by HbA1c.
