AbstractObjectivesThere is increasing evidence indicating an association between invasive non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) infection in pregnancy and early pregnancy loss. As the diagnosis relies on microbiological investigation of post-mortem placental and foetal samples, a significant proportion of NTHi-related pregnancy loss remains unrecognised. To better characterise NTHi in septic abortion, we report NTHi cases associated with early pregnancy loss.MethodsWe reviewed all post-mortems at

CONCLUSIONS: Our data demonstrates no association between the presence of intrauterine haematoma in the first trimester and first trimester miscarriage. However, a relationship with preterm birth independent of the presence of symptoms of pain and bleeding is evident. These women should be counseled about their increased risk of preterm birth and possibly be offered increased surveillance during their pregnancies. This article is protected by copyright. A very effective medical therapies for various types of pelvic pain is the use of dextroamphetamine sulfate. The probable mechanism for pain relief seems to be by releasing more dopamine from sympathetic nerve fibers which diminishes cellular permeability. Increased cellular permeability may be the cause of pelvic pain related to increased absorption or irritating chemicals into pelvic tissues leading to excessive inflammation. Increased inflammatory cells, especially natural killer cells, could be a cause of infertility or miscarriage.

This study raises the possibility of a role for surgery for patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis who continue to feel poorly despite optimal treatment with thyroid hormone. However, the study, while well done, is a relatively small one. We need longer-term follow up and confirmation with additional studies done on diverse populations. It’s also important to consider that thyroid surgery in patients with advanced Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is difficult. Rates of complications, including injury to the laryngeal nerve (which controls voice) and the parathyroid glands (which maintain normal blood calcium levels...

CONCLUSIONS: Available evidence from randomised trials suggests that medical treatment with vaginal misoprostol may be an acceptable alternative to surgical evacuation or expectant management. In general, side effects of medical treatment were minor, consisting mainly of nausea and diarrhoea. There were no major differences in effectiveness between different routes of administration. Treatment satisfaction was addressed in only a few studies, in which the majority of women were satisfied with the received intervention. Since the quality of evidence is low or very low for several comparisons, mainly because they included on...

A majority of miscarriages have been thought to be caused by fertile ovum abnormalities; however, our findings suggest that a small uterus can also potentially cause miscarriage. There are no reports on the association between a small uterus and miscarriage. A woman in her late 20s, whose medical history revealed childhood acute lymphocytic leukemia, which progressed to remission after chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and bone marrow transplantation. Ultrasound revealed no ovarian follicles in either of the ovaries and small uterus (length, 32 mm) In cycle 15, after ovum collection, frozen embryos with Veeck ’s classifica...

ConclusionA single value of progesterone is useful in predicting the viability of the ongoing threatened pregnancy. Serum progesterone with a cut-off value of 10.8  ng/ml was found to have a positive predictive value of 95.7% and negative predictive value of 70.7% with an accuracy of 86%.

ConclusionAn active lifestyle characterized by higher levels of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and lower levels of sedentary time during pregnancy might modestly improve the mental health of pregnant women. Although previous research has focused on the benefits of cardiorespiratory exercise, the present study shows that only upper-body flexibility is related to emotional regulation in early pregnant women. If the present findings are corroborated in further experimental research, physical exercise programs should focus on enhancing flexibility in order to promote improvements in emotional regulation during early se...

Over the past several years, the commercial status of the Essure Coil, a permanent hysteroscopic sterilization device, has switched from assured to pressured. In July 2018, the device's manufacturer, Bayer Healthcare, announced that it would halt sales in the United States (the last country in which the device has been offered) by year's end. This decision was prompted by years of declining sales revenue and came after thousands of women filed complaints of adverse events, including device expulsion, uterine and tubal perforation, intractable pelvic pain, and bleeding necessitating hysterectomy, device-related death, unint...

Conclusion This paper summarizes the current findings regarding the anti-colitis activity of plant-derived alkaloids and shows how these alkaloids exhibit significant and beneficial effects in alleviating colonic inflammation. These natural alkaloids are not only promising agents for IBD treatment but are also components for developing new wonder drugs. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms or toxicological evaluation of most plant-derived alkaloids still require much scientific research, and their actual efficacies for IBD patients have not been verified well in field research. Thus, further clinical trials to elu...
