Osteoporosis and sarcopenia

Osteoporosis and sarcopenia are among the most dangerous conditions for postmenopausal women, with potential reduction of quality of life and life expectancy. Osteoporosis is a decreased bone strength, with subsequent increased susceptibility to fracture. Sarcopenia is an age-related decrease of muscle mass, with subsequent functional alterations and loss of strength, increased risk of falls, and decreased personal autonomy. In women, menopausal period is linked to a significant decrease in estrogen levels and an accelerated decline in bone/muscle mass and strength.
