Children ’s Perspectives on the Experiences of Their Siblings with Chronic Disorders
In conclusion, siblings show psychologically complex insi ghts into the experiences and mindsets of CCD and should be considered as informants in research and in informing practice interventions for CCD, alongside their parents.
AbstractThe SynGAP protein is a major regulator of synapse biology and neural circuit function. Genetic variants linked to epilepsy and intellectual disability disrupt synaptic function and neural excitability. SynGAP has been involved in multiple signaling pathways and can regulate small GTPases with very different functions. Yet, the molecular bases behind this pleiotropy are poorly understood. We hypothesize that different SynGAP isoforms will mediate different sets of functions and that deciphering their spatio ‐temporal expression and subcellular localization will accelerate understanding their multiple functions. Conclusions and implicationsGiven the heightened vulnerability to distress among parents of children with multiple developmental disabilities, psychological care should particularly target this population. Early identification and intervention strategies are also needed to detect children with multiple co-occurring developmental disabilities, which could potentially alleviate their emotional and behavioral problems and lessen the parenting burden.
Stroke is a major cause of death and disability across the world, with many reviews from the Cochrane Stroke Group providing evidence on the effects of treatments and rehabilitation interventions. In November 2019, the Group published their update of their review of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and we asked lead author, Gillian Mead from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, to tell us more.
