Channeling anger and frustration into action

It ’s clear that many Americans have a new or renewed interest and engagement in politics. The 2018 national and state elections got a lot of media attention as more women, people of color and LGBT individuals filed for office in record numbers. In Michigan, where only 23% of state lawmakers were wom en in 2016, there were women on the 2018 ballot for governor, attorney general, secretary of state, and in 63% of the state’s Senate races and 71% of House races, according to a Reuters report. A similar phenomenon played out in North Carolina where I live and serve in the state House.
