Clinical Snippets

A key factor that determines the applicability of trial evidence to clinical guidelines is the choice of outcomes. In an evaluation of 10  Cochrane Skin systematic reviews and 220 clinical trials, Schmitt and colleagues found a low degree of agreement between trial and review outcomes. A significant number of outcomes sought by reviews were not assessed in dermatological trials, potentially introducing weakness in systematic review c onclusions. Better concordance was observed between the trials and reviews for outcome domains, fortuitously suggesting that trialists and reviewers typically consider similar aspects of disease.
