Fretting friction and wear experiments between the stem taper and head were carried out to demonstrate the feasibility of PEEK as a metal substitute. The results show that the wear values of the Ti6Al4V/PEEK and Ti6Al4V/CoCrMo pairs were all of a small order of magnitude. The Ti6Al4V/PEEK pairs had a better corrosion resistance than the Ti6Al4V/CoCrMo pairs. Meanwhile, the fretting characteristics and damage mechanism of the Ti6Al4V/PEEK pairs were obtained.
