A Vision of the Future of Stone Management

In recent years, we have seen tremendous advances in the management of patients suffering from urinary stone disease. For example, ureteroscopy has moved from a procedure that had limited efficacy for complex stone burdens to the most commonly performed procedure for stones at any location in the collecting system. Similarly, percutaneous nephrolithotomy has evolved from a morbid intervention associated with high complication rates and prolonged hospitalization to an efficient stone removal approach that can claim excellent clinical outcomes.
