Abstract A novel deep learning architecture was explored to create synthetic CT (MRCT) images that preserve soft tissue contrast necessary for support of patient positioning in Radiation therapy. A U-Net architecture was applied to learn the correspondence between input T1-weighted MRI and spatially aligned corresponding CT images. The network was trained on sagittal images, taking advantage of the left-right symmetry of the brain to increase the amount of training data for similar anatomic positions. The output CT images were divided into three channels, representing Hounsfield Unit (HU) ranges of voxels containi...

ConclusionMPNST are difficult to manage because of their aggressive nature and the limitations in early diagnosis and management. In patients with Von Recklinghausens disease, malignancy must be suspected when a patient presents with the complaints as mentioned in this case report.

AbstractMetal artefacts pose a common problem in single energy computed tomography (SECT) images used for radiotherapy. Virtual monoenergetic (VME) images constructed with dual energy computed tomography (DECT) scans can be used to reduce beam hardening artefacts. Dual energy metal artefact reduction is compared and combined with iterative metal artefact reduction (iMAR) to determine optimal imaging strategies for patients with metal prostheses. SECT and DECT scans were performed on a Siemens Somatom AS-64 Slice CT scanner. Images were acquired of a modified CIRS pelvis phantom with 6, 12, 20  mm diameter stainless st...

Radiotherapy is a well established method for attacking tumors within the body. There are a number of techniques that are used to administer radiation to a lesion, but they all come with the risk of injuring nearby tissues and organs. Gamma beams and...

We reported a case of a 66-year-old man after surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy for colon cancer. Two months after these therapies, the patient complained of nonproductive cough for 1 week. Diagnoses: 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) scanning revealed increased FDG uptake along the thickened bronchovascular bundles, in bilaterally scattered ground-glass opacities and in mediastinal lymphadenopathy. The transbronchial biopsy and pathological study confirmed the diagnosis of PLC. Interventions: Antineoplastic treatment (cetuximab) were administered afte...

ConclusionsThe recommended phase 2 dose was palbociclib 125  mg/d for 21 days on and 7 days off with full standard dose of cetuximab and IMRT for locally advanced SCCHN. MTD was not achieved. The combination was well tolerated with promising preliminary efficacy. The expansion cohort of palbociclib 125 mg/d is currently accruing up to 15 locally advanced p16-negative SCCHN patients.Clinical trial identificationNCT#03024489.Legal entity responsible for the studyThe authors.FundingPfizer.DisclosureN. Conclusions: The rate of asymptomatic LVEF decline in patients receiving concurrent trastuzumab and Hypo-RT was low (7%) and was similar to the rate observed in patients receiving Conv-RT. Longer follow-up is warranted to assess late cardiotoxicity.

Abstract Aim: To determine the effect of bulking and osmotic laxation regimens on reducing rectal gas in patients receiving external beam radiation therapy for prostate cancer. Methods: A single blinded randomized controlled trial was conducted. Participants assigned to the intervention group (IG) were instructed to consume a bulking laxative and probiotic and the standard care group (SC) instructed to consume an osmotic laxative. Both groups followed a standard low gas diet. Rectal gas ratings were determined from cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans. Dietary and laxative compliance, bowel habits, fiber and...
