AbstractPrevious task-fMRI studies have reported the abnormal brain activations in major depressive disorders (MDD) with suicidal behavior. However, there is no consensus of opinion on task-fMRI imaging findings of the suicidal brain. We performed a meta-analysis to integrate the results of reported studies to find the consistent task-related alteration pattern of brain activations in MDD patients with suicidal behavior, aiming to investigate brain functional alterations in association with a vulnerability to suicidal behavior. Using the SDM (Seed-based d Mapping) method, we conducted a meta-analysis of the task-fMRI studi...

AbstractRecent FindingsIn homicide-suicide (HS), a perpetrator kills at least one victim and then commits suicide within a time frame, which is not consistently described in the literature. Most HS happen in an intimate partner relationship (HS-IP), but data about this phenomenon are still scant and poorly systematized.Purpose of ReviewTo assess the research papers published about HS-IP from 2012 to 2018 in Pubmed and Scopus. Last week a committee of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommended in a 14-2 vote that the agency approve the use of a nasal spray form of esketamine (a specific type of ketamine) for the treatment of treatment-resistant depression and certain other types of depression. Treatment-resistant depression is when clinical depression fails to respond to multiple (at least two) attempts to treat it with at least two different types of medications or psychotherapy over the course of a year or longer. If the FDA ends up approving the drug — and we believe they will — it will offer new hope for people with ...

CONCLUSIONS: Non-fatal DSH represent frequent events with a significant risk of short-term recurrence and death from various causes. The first 6 months following hospital discharge appear to be a critical period. Specific short-term aftercare programs targeting all people with a DSH episode have to be developed, along other suicide prevention strategies. PMID: 30773154 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
