Przepuklina pępowinowa i wytrzewienie wrodzone – różnice i podobieństwa w etiologii, diagnostyce oraz postępowaniu z noworodkiem

This article presents etiology and strategies in diagnostics and in prenatal and postnatal management in these disorders. There are similarities and differences between gastroschisis and omphalocele which are essential for correct patient management. Most abdominal wall defects are detected antenatally. Prenatal diagnosis may influence timing, route and location of delivery and it facilitates postnatal multidisciplinary approach. The goal of surgical treatment is to place the herniated viscera back into the abdomen and close the wall defect. Options include primary closure, staged approaches and delayed closure with epithelialization of the amnion sac. Gastroschisis is usually an isolated abnormality, whereas omphalocele is frequently associated with other structural malformations. Long-term outcome is good in most cases; however, it is affected by associated anomalies in case of omphalocele and by the condition of intestines in case of gastroschisis.
