Recent trends in intensive treatments of obesity: is academic research matching public interest?

Overweight/obesity continues to be a serious public health concern. World Health Organization estimated that the worldwide prevalence of obesity nearly tripled between 1975 and 2016, with 1.9 bilion adults are overweight in 2016, and of these 650 million were obese.[1] In addition to the pandemic escalation of obesity in developed nations, obesity is now on the rise in developing countries, such as China, India and the rest of Asia. The World Health Organization estimates that more than 1.7 billion people worldwide are overweight or obesel.
