Sarcomatoid Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Case Report and Review of the Differential Diagnosis of Malignant Spindle Cell Lesions of the Liver

Sarcomatoid hepatocellular carcinoma is a rare aggressive variant of hepatocellular carcinoma that typically shows a conventional component of hepatocellular carcinoma admixed with a malignant spindle cell proliferation. In small biopsy specimens, the conventional component may not always be present; therefore, knowledge of the differential diagnosis of malignant spindle cell lesion presenting in the liver is necessary to ensure accurate diagnosis.
