This study is a prospective, exploratory, qualitative analysis. Twenty midwives from Grenoble Alpes University Hospital who took care of one of the selected patients participated in this study. Two women had schizophrenia and one bipolar disorder. Interviews realized with a semi-structured guide were fully transcribed, anonymized and thematically analyzed. Topics have been structured according to the number of occurrences to build a thematic tree. RESULTS: Midwives felt insecure and resourceless when the postpartum care was unclear, insufficiently anticipated and in case of a danger for the women or the children. They ...

Authors: Dyga K Abstract The article was written with the intention of filling the gap in the Polish psychiatric literature, which has not yet found room for the analysis of the phenomenon of bipolar disorder (BD) in terms of consequences that it may have for identity of people diagnosed with it. In order to do that, taking into account absence of the research in Poland, an attempt was made to find all previous reports on this subject in English-language professional journals and monographs. As a result, a detailed description with commentaries was made on five thorough studies of essentially qualitative nature. Al...

CONCLUSIONS: The observed symptomatic differences may be an additional factor of MDD/DB differential diagnosis. Lower than previously reported symptoms stability highlights the need to evaluate more than one depressive episode in differential diagnosis. PMID: 31522204 [PubMed - in process]

Authors: Malewska-Kasprzak MK, Permoda-Osip A, Rybakowski J Abstract Purinergic system plays a role in the regulation of many psychological processes, including mood and activity. It consists of P1 receptors, with adenosine as the agonist, and P2 receptors, activated by nucleotides (e.g., adenosine 5'-triphosphate - ATP). Propounded disturbances of uric acid in affective disorders were related to the introduction of lithium for the treatment of these disorders in the 19th and 20th century. At the beginning of the 21st century, new evidence was accumulated concerning a role of uric acid in the pathogenesis and treat...

CONCLUSIONS: There is an asymmetry between the increase in the use of antipsychotics in BD and the lack of data regarding the SRA. Phenomenologically, SRA in BD is similar to that found in schizophrenic subjects. Some of these symptoms may be misdiagnosed as depressive symptoms. The existing data show that SRA has a strong correlation with treatment compliance as well as a promising way to develop theoretical paradigms for these disorders. ConclusionThis data provides the first insight into hip fractures in the oldest old in an Irish context. Rate of operative intervention was reassuringly high with in-hospital mortality outcomes of 12% which is low by international standards. The age of those sustaining hip fractures is increasing with numbers of the oldest old expected to rise. Orthogeriatric input results in improved care for this population and will require increased resourcing for future cohorts of patients.
