Hamstring injuries in Major League Baseball pitchers: implications in graft selection for ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction - Howard DR, Banffy MB, Elattrache NS.

BACKGROUND:: Hamstring tendons are commonly harvested as autograft for ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction. There is no consensus in the literature whether the hamstring tendon should be harvested from the ipsilateral (drive) leg or contralateral (lan...

AbstractMicrovascular obstruction (MVO) after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (pPCI) is identified as an independent risk factor for poor prognosis in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The inflammatory response induced by ischemia and reperfusion (I/R) injury is considered one of the main mechanisms of MVO. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are a unique stromal cell type that confers an immunomodulatory effect in cardiac disease. The present study aimed to investigate whether immediate intravenous delivery of MSCs could be used as a potential therapeutic method to attenuate MVO formation. A cardiac ca...

Abstract OBJECTIVE: To shorten the preparation time of rabbit decellularized tracheal matrix through a modified detergent-enzymatic method with higher concentration of DNase (50 kU/mL), providing an experimental and theoretical basis for clinical decellularization technology. METHODS: The control group was a natural trachea, and the experimental group was a tracheal matrix subjected to two and four decellularization cycles. The performance of each group of samples was evaluated by histology and immunohistochemical staining, scanning electron microscopy, biomechanical property testing, inoculation and cytotoxi...

The occurrence of radiological opacities post-transbronchial cryobiopsy may pose serious difficulties in differential diagnosis and management of lung allografts. This prospective study evaluated the frequency, characteristics, and evolution of new lung opacities after performing transbronchial cryobiopsy.

We describe 3 additional children from 2 unrelated families with cholestasis and liver failure because of pathologic variants in NR1H4. One patient underwent liver transplantation and has had good clinical outcomes in 6 years of follow-up. Although that patient has biochemical evidence of increased bile acid synthetic activity, he has not experienced post-transplant diarrhea or allograft steatosis, as has been reported among other transplanted patients.

AbstractPurposeTo study the effect of age, duration of injury, type of graft and concomitant knee injuries on return to sports after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction.MethodOne-hundred and sixteen athletes underwent ACL reconstruction using either bone –patellar tendon–bone graft (BPTB;n = 58) or semitendinosus-gracilis graft (n = 58), depending upon their random number sequences. Five variables were analyzed in terms of their effect on return to sports-age, type of graft, time interval between injury and surgery, chondral damage and meniscal tears.ResultsFifty-three ou...

Donor-recipient (D-R) differences at human leukocyte antigen (HLA) loci are currently incorporated into organ sharing, allocation and immunosuppression decisions. However, while acute rejection episodes have substantially diminished, progressive histologic damage occurs in allografts and improved long-term survival remains an unrealized goal among kidney recipients. Here we tested the hypothesis that non-HLA dependent, genome-wide D-R genetic differences.could contribute to unchecked alloimmunity with histologic and functional consequences, culminating in long-term allograft failure.
