Thymol derivatives from the roots of Eupatorium chinense and their cytotoxic activities

Their structures were elucidated by analysis of MS data and extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy (1H-1H COSY, HMBC, HSQC and NOESY). The absolute configuration of compound 1 was assigned based on a comparison of calculated and experimental ECD. Compounds 1–2 were tested in vitro for their cytotoxic activities against three cancer cell lines CNE 2, Caski and HGC-27. Among them, compound 1 showed notable cytotoxic activities against the three cancer cell lines with IC50 values ranging from 4.2 to 11.9 μM.Graphical abstract
