Heart valve disease can now be treated without surgery

In 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a breakthrough non-surgical heart procedure called Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement, or TAVR for short, to replace diseased aortic valves in patients who are too sick to undergo traditional open heart surgery.
