Does executive functioning mediate the association between childhood maltreatment and adult psychopathy?

Background: Childhood maltreatment is an important public health problem linked to a range of negative outcomes, including poor neuropsychological functioning and psychopathy. Deficits in neuropsychological functions have been hypothesized to mediate the relationship between childhood maltreatment and adult psychopathic traits. Most recent research suggests that psychopathy is a multifaceted construct encompassing three to four facets (i.e. manipulative interpersonal style, callous and unemotional traits, impulsivity, and antisocial behavior), which may be differentially related to neuropsychological functioning.
