Ensuring Adolescents ’ Ability to Obtain Confidential Family Planning Services in Title X

HIGHLIGHTS In keeping with medical and ethical standards of care, the Title X national family planning program has long guaranteed confidentiality for all patients, and specifically for adolescents. Social conservatives have relied on fundamentally flawed rationales in their efforts to undermine policies pr otecting adolescents’ right to confidentially obtain contraceptive, STI and related family planning services.  For many young people, family planning providers serve as their most trusted sources of information, and not being able to obtain care confidentially would mean forgoing needed counseli ng and services entirely.
