Gender Diversity Meets the 21st Century: Social Media and Peer Influences on Adolescent Gender Identity Formation

In the context of growing referral rates and increasing diversification of presentations of patients with gender nonconformity in behavior and/or identity [including “rapid onset of transgender identity declarations” (ROTID)], this panel aims to provide an overview of research on variants of social support and social stigma with an emphasis on the offline and online peer group to help clinicians disentangle their complexity and fine-tune patient evaluations and treatment planning accordingly.
