Mastitis in Dairy Cows

Mastitis has always been an important disease of dairy cows, and its occurrence has a negative impact on animal well-being and farm profitability. Veterinarians have played an important role in controlling mastitis, but as the epidemiology of the disease has changed, our role has broadened. It is important to recognize that dramatic changes have occurred in farm technologies and herd structure, and public concerns about farm practices, such as antibiotic usage, have increased. All of these changes influence how veterinary practitioners interact with farmers to reduce the negative impact of mastitis on dairy farms.
