AbstractBackgroundChronic kidney disease (CKD) is highly prevalent in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD).ObjectiveThe outcome following revascularization using contemporary technologies (new-generation abluminal sirolimus-eluting stents with thin struts) in patients with CKD (i.e., glomerular filtration rate of

ConclusionsThe IOA approach is a promising method to enable rapid access to the right jugular vein in the setting of pre-existing TCVO. Additional experience is needed to understand the generalizability of these observations.

CONCLUSION: Fewer than half of participants had functional maturation within 180 days after surgery, suggesting a major need for agents or strategies that enhance arteriovenous fistula maturation. PMID: 31774037 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

CONCLUSION: Outflow reconstruction through the elbow bypass by cubital vein transposition is a valuable resource to rescue radiocephalic arteriovenous fistula complicated by outflow obstruction, avoiding the use of an interim central vein catheter. Endovascular treatment is vital to maintain functional patency in the mid- and long term. PMID: 31774035 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

AbstractAimsThe aim of this study was to determine the incidence, predictors, and short ‐term and long‐term outcomes associated with in‐hospital sustained ventricular tachycardia (VT) and ventricular fibrillation (VF) collectively termed ventricular arrhythmia (VA) in the heart failure (HF) patients. Methods and resultsThe HEart function Assessment Registry Trial in Saudi Arabia (HEARTS registry) is a prospective national registry of patients with chronic HF from18 tertiary care hospitals across Saudi Arabia. Diagnosis of HF was in accordance with American Heart Association/European Society of Cardiology definition cr...

CONCLUSIONS: These results indicate that the use of PPIs in patients with maintenance hemodialysis might increase mortality and cardiovascular events without decreasing the risk of bleeding. Therefore, it should always be analyzed if a patient truly needs PPIs. PMID: 31735546 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

AbstractIntroductionThe outcomes of transfemoral (TF) compared with transapical (TA) access for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in diabetics are unknown.MethodsWe queried the NIS database (2011 –2014) to identify diabetics who underwent TAVR. We performed a propensity matching analysis comparing TF-TAVR versus TA-TAVR.ResultsThe analysis included 14.555 diabetics who underwent TAVR. After matching, in-hospital mortality was not different between TF-TAVR and TA-TAVR. (3.5 vs. 4.4%,p = 0.11). TF-TAVR was associated with lower rates of cardiogenic shock (2.7 vs. 4.7%,p = 0.02), ...

AbstractEnd stage renal disease requiring hemodialysis (HD) is frequent and coronary artery disease (CAD) is a common comorbidity. It is associated with bleeding and ischemic events. Platelet reactivity is a well-known determinant of both. However, the impact of HD due to end stage chronic kidney disease (CKD) on platelet reactivity is unknown. Therefore in this study, we evaluated platelet reactivity during hemodialysis in patients with CKD and coronary artery disease. 22 patients with CKD, HD and CAD were included in this study. Light transmission aggregometry (LTA) and flow cytometry were used for evaluating platelet fu...

Acute poisoning in children is a clinical emergency. Prompt and effective treatment is critical for life-threatening poisoning. Extracorporeal treatment (ECTR) is a practical option for enhancing the elimination of poisons. We conducted a retrospective observational study on 338 children with severe acute poisoning who received ECTR during hospitalization from January 2010 to December 2017. The poisonous substances, utilization of ECTR, adverse reactions to ECTR, and outcomes were recorded. The top 3 poisoning categories, in order of frequency, were found to be pesticides (57.99%), biotoxins (25.15%), and pharmaceuticals...

Conclusions: In children supported by extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, chest tube bleeding above 60 mL/kg/d was independently associated with worse clinical outcome. Low fibrinogen was independently associated with chest tube bleeding, whereas platelet count and hemostatic tests were not. Further research is needed to evaluate if interventions to prevent or stop chest tube bleeding influence the clinical outcome.
