Publication date: June 2014 Source:Anesthesiology Clinics, Volume 32, Issue 2 Author(s): Elizabeth A. Alley , Michael F. MuloryTeaser Neuraxial anesthesia for outpatient surgery can provide excellent anesthesia for certain patients. The short-acting local anesthetic 2-chloroprocaine has an appropriate length of action for short outpatient procedures with a very low risk of transient neurologic symptoms. Epidural anesthesia with short-acting agents can provide good outpatient anesthesia for procedures lasting 90 minutes or longer.
