Bilateral Peripheral Vascular Disease: The Hidden Complications of Fatigue

The early diagnosis of bilateral peripheral vascular disease can be paramount in ensuring the health, wellness and quality of life of our patients. Various physical examination skills such as abdominal aorta palpation and a thorough understanding of patient history risk factors can greatly increase the level of successful detection of peripheral vascular disease. This is imperative to our success as medical providers, as nearly 12% of the United States population has developed arterial disease. Vascular recruitment and collateral formation can mitigate small amounts of arterial occlusion but certain symptoms such as intermittent claudication can provide the physician a clue to the pathophysiological diagnosis of chronic arterial occlusion.
