Man Killed, Woman Seriously Injured When Boat Hits Piling in Water

  TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) - A boating accident in Tampa left one person dead and another seriously injured early Sunday evening, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation. At about 5:15 p.m., the Tampa Police Department got a call regarding a boating accident in the waters off Davis Islands. Wildlife officials said the 15-foot Gheenoe was carrying two people when it struck a piling, sending both passengers into the water, according to a witness. A male passenger was recovered by Tampa Fire Rescue and taken to Tampa General Hospital where he was declared deceased, officials said. A female passenger was recovered by Tampa Fire Rescue and rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. Her current condition is unknown.
