Early experience with PECS 1 block for Port-a-Cath insertion or removal in children at a single institution

The pectoral nerves (PECS) 1 block has been successfully utilized as a perioperative analgesia adjunct in adult breast surgery and minimal invasive cardiac surgery. [1, 2] Originally demonstrated as an interfascial plane block with local anesthetic deposited between the pectoralis major and minor muscles, this technique can sufficiently anesthetize the medial and lateral pectoral nerves and third to sixth intercostal nerves. [3] Despite promising results in adults, the PECS 1 block has not been studied in children.
