Atkins, Ruth T. Yu, Rob Knight, Christopher Liddle, Michael Downes, Ronald M. EvansSummaryIncreased levels of intestinal bile acids (BAs) are a risk factor for colorectal cancer (CRC). Here, we show that the convergence of dietary factors (high-fat diet) and dysregulated WNT signaling (APC mutation) alters BA profiles to drive malignant trans...

Transforming growth factor β-induced epithelial-to-mesenchymal signature predicts metastasis-free survival in non-small cell lung cancer. Oncotarget. 2019 Jan 25;10(8):810-824 Authors: Gordian E, Welsh EA, Gimbrone N, Siegel EM, Shibata D, Creelan BC, Cress WD, Eschrich SA, Haura EB, Muñoz-Antonia T Abstract Transforming growth factor beta (TGFβ) plays a key role in regulating epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT). A gene expression signature (TGFβ-EMT) associated with TGFβ-induced EMT activities was developed using human Non-Small Cell Lung Carcinoma (NSCLC) cells treat...

Influence of lncRNA MALAT1 on septic lung injury in mice through p38 MAPK/p65 NF-κB pathway. Eur Rev Med Pharmacol Sci. 2019 Feb;23(3):1296-1304 Authors: Lin LP, Niu GH, Zhang XQ Abstract OBJECTIVE: To investigate the influence of long non-coding ribonucleic acid (lncRNA) metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) on septic lung injury in mice and its mechanism, so as to provide references for the clinical prevention and treatment of septic lung injury in the future. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 60 male C57 mice were randomly divided into Control group (n=20), lipopo...

CONCLUSIONS: We showed that miR-1205 could promote LUAD cell growth by targeting APC2 protein expression and provided further proof of miR-1205 as a potential non-invasive biomarker and therapeutic target for LUAD. PMID: 30779081 [PubMed - in process]

Brain metastasis (BM) is associated with poor prognosis, recurrence, and death in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Lysophosphatidylcholine acyltransferase 1 (LPCAT1) has been reported to be in...

We read with great interest the study by Szu-Yen Hu and colleagues [1].This retrospective study identified that the presence of spread through air spaces (STAS) might be considered as a staging profile of lung adenocarcinomas in future staging system, because STAS was significantly correlated with several invasive clinicopathological characteristics(e.g., higher T, N stages, moderate/poor differentiation and the presence of lymphovascular invasion ) in multivariate analysis for resected lung adenocarcinoma.

AbstractPurposeLow anterior resection with coloanal anastomosis (CAA) for low rectal cancer is a technically difficult operation with limited data available on oncologic outcomes. We aim to investigate overall survival and operative oncologic outcomes in patients who underwent CAA compared to abdominoperineal resection (APR).MethodsThe National Cancer Database (2004 –2013) was used to identify patients with non-metastatic rectal adenocarcinoma who underwent CAA or APR. Patients were 1:1 matched on age, gender, Charlson score, tumor size, tumor grade, pathologic stage, and radiation treatment with propensity scores. T...

ConclusionsWe showed the effects of TCA in cancer progression in vitro. However, Barrett ’s adenocarcinoma onset rates differ between mice and rats despite undergoing similar reflux stimulation including taurine-conjugated bile acids being detected in mouse bile juice. These results suggest that host factors seem to influence Barrett’s carcinogenesis.
