Notre experience de la prise en charge de la fracture de verge au CHU de Lomé

ConclusionLes résultats de la chirurgie des fractures de verge dans notre expérience sont encourageants malgré l’étroitesse de notre série.AbstractObjectivereport the management of a series of six cases of penile fracture in our hospital practice.Material and methodswe conducted a retrospective study of all cases of penis fracture identified in five years (October 2010-September 2015) at the University Hospital of Lome. The criteria considered were age, marital status, time of occurrence, the circumstances of occurrence, the occurrence mechanism, the delay of treatment, type of treatment and sexual function after treatment. The sexual function was assessed by the IIEF5 score during a telephone interview with each patient.Resultsin five years, six cases of penis fracture were recorded. The average age of patients was 37.3 years (25 years to 60 years). In two thirds of cases the fact of occurrence was a violent sexual intercourse, masturbation in a third. The average time of care was 74 hours with a range of 12 hours and 336 hours. All patients were treated surgically. After a mean follow up of 18.5 months, 4 patients had normal erectile function and two patients reported erectile dysfunction (moderate disorders in one and middle disorders in the second).Discussionthe late management of patients in our conditions is imputable to the reluctance of African people to consult for disease concerning genital organs. The delay in...

Resistance toward current and new classes of anti-tuberculosis (anti-TB) antibiotics are rapidly emerging; thus, innovative therapies focused on host processes, termed host-directed therapies (HDTs), are promising novel approaches for shortening therapy regimens without inducing drug resistance. Development of new TB drugs is lengthy and expensive, and success is not guaranteed; thus, alternatives are needed. Repurposed drugs have already passed Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as well as European Medicines Agency (EMA) safety requirements and may only need to prove efficacy against Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M.tb). Pho...

Authors: Corona G, Rastrelli G, Isidori AM, Pivonello R, Bettocchi C, Reisman Y, Sforza A, Maggi M Abstract Introduction: A large body of evidence has clearly documented that erectile dysfunction (ED) represents not only a complication of cardiovascular (CV) diseases (CVD) but often an early sign of forthcoming CVD.Areas covered: All the available data from meta-analyses evaluating the association between ED and CV risk were collected and discussed. Similarly, all available meta-analyses investigating the significance of ED as a possible early marker for major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) were analyzed. In ...

Multiple sclerosis (MS) pathology progressively affects multiple central nervous system (CNS) areas. Due to this fact, MS produces a wide array of symptoms. Symptomatic therapy of one MS symptom can cause or worsen other unwanted symptoms (anticholinergics used for bladder dysfunction produce impairment of cognition, many MS drugs produce erectile dysfunction, etc.). Appropriate symptomatic therapy is an unmet need. Several important functions/symptoms (muscle tone, sleep, bladder, pain) are mediated, in great part, in the brainstem. Cannabinoid receptors are distributed throughout the CNS irregularly: There is an accumula...

Authors: Ceyhun G, Erbay G Abstract BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) and erectile dysfunction (ED) without overt cardiovascular disease. METHODS: A total of 80 patients with LVDD and without a history of coronary artery disease were compared with 80 age- and gender-matched healthy controls. The International Index of Erectile Function Questionnaire (IIEF-5) was used to diagnose and grade ED. LVDD and its relation with ED severity were assessed. RESULTS: The mean age, body mass index, total testosterone, low- and high-d...

AbstractBackgroundSexual dysfunction (SD) is a common, yet under-reported, non-motor symptom (NMS) of Parkinson ’s disease (PD). The present study investigated the sexual functions in PD male patients, its correlation with motor and other NMSs, and their impact on health-related quality of life (HRQoL).MethodsThe sexual functions of 40 PD male patients were assessed using the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) and compared to 25 healthy age-matched controls. Patients were evaluated using the NMS Scale (NMSS) and the Arabic version of the Parkinson ’s-Disease Questionnaire (PDQ-39). We compared the ...
