From second to fourth year we got two weeks off at Christmas and two weeks in the summer. Clinical years are long in both graduate entry and five year medical degrees and the hours are generally similar to that of a full time job, so socialising was generally saved for Fridays and weekends.
It is possible to work during GEM but once again this has to fit around exams and hospital placements. Most people I knew who worked did flexible jobs like bank HCA/nursing/phlebotomy shifts, locum pharmacist shifts or working on campus as a residential assistant or at the SU.
