Nickel-catalyzed arylation of the allene gives allylnickel species, which undergo cyclization by 1,4-allylation to produce hexahydroindol-5-ones and hexahydrobenzofuran-5-ones with three contiguous stereocenters in high diastereo- and enantioselectivities.
