EP News: Case Reports

Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is a common valvular heart abnormality and often regarded as a relatively benign condition. However, in a subset of patients, ventricular arrhythmias and sudden death have been reported in both the presence and the absence of significant mitral valve regurgitation. Risk factors for sudden death include T-wave abnormalities in the inferior leads, right bundle branch block (RBBB) or polymorphic ventricular arrhythmias, and fibrosis at the base of the papillary muscle or inferobasal free wall.
