The new study by Temkin-Greener and colleagues1 contributes to a growing body of literature establishing that older adults with severe mental illness (SMI) are more likely to receive care from lower quality nursing homes, compared with older adults without mental illness. Temkin-Greener et al. used data from Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Nursing Home Five-Star Quality Rating System to highlight this disparity in novel manner.
